Empow Studios and ACEDONE Reflect on Successful Collaboration
This summer saw the two organizations team up for a STEM initiative that empowered students in vital ways.
Boston, MA– This past summer, the non-profit organization African Community Economic Development of New England (or ACEDONE), based out of Roxbury, MA, established contact with Empow Studios to help supplement ACEDONE’s Summer Learning programs, and specifically, to bolster their inaugural STEM initiative. The immediate synergy between the two companies made for a logical, fruitful collaboration.
Established in 2002, ACEDONE’s mission is to help East African refugee and immigrant families in Boston to develop into a self-sufficient and vital community by providing youth with the quality education and life experience they need to reach their full potential as adult American citizens. ACEDONE achieves this by providing academic enrichment, civic engagement, job training and placement, youth leadership development, career counseling, and business development.

Empow and ACEDONE teamed up to deliver an educational program where students learned the basics of coding, robotics building, 3D design and printing, and animation, ultimately producing projects ranging from personalized keychains to stop-motion animated short films. The STEM learning segued into additional opportunities for ACEDONE’s scholar students to dabble in art and song, too, that focused on raising awareness around social and cultural issues affecting their communities.
“ACEDONE is fully satisfied with Empow’s work and really appreciated how Empow technology positively impacted our scholars, who are the direct beneficiaries,” says ACEDONE’s CEO Abdulkadir Hussein. “It was one of [our organization]’s Summer Learning academic activities that every one of our scholars, regardless of age or grade level, has shown great satisfaction with and appreciation of. We are looking to have the same opportunity in the future.”
“It’s important, too,” notes Empow Vice President of Operations Dave Gutierrez, “that students from radically different cultures experience STEM. It can be transformational for all kinds of groups.”
