Class runs 1/30/20 – 4/2/20 (No class 2/20/20).

Go from gamer to designer. Kids love playing video games, but they have even more fun playing games designed by them and their friends! One of Empow Studios’ most popular classes, Video Game Design encompasses storytelling, pixel art, and object-oriented programming, all through a user-friendly, 2D game design platform. Our non-violence policy keeps the games cringe-free and shareable once the kids bring their games home for you to play!

This class focuses on the popular sub-genre of video game development, called platformers. These are often associated with a static or side scrolling UX playing fields, often remembered with arcade and game classics like Donkey Kong or Super Mario Brothers by Nintendo. This genre became hugely popular in the 90’s with games like Mega Man, Battletoads, Contra, Double Dragon, and many many more. Today, especially in indie development, platformers are still very relevant, with games like Terraria.

This is a great way to design a fun, functional game before diving into 3D game development.
