At Competitive Robotics, students immerse themselves into a training environment to be prepared for the biggest worldwide robotics competitions – FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and World Robot Olympiad (WRO). Whether or not your child is expecting to participate in these competitions, this is a good chance to get their feet wet and see what a competitive season would be like.
Students experiment and create advanced programming in LEGO EV3 Mindstorms, to build and program autonomous robots for competitive robotics contests. Team members master control, loops and switches, and math blocks. Robot designs mature as the class continues, with sensors using gyro, color, ultrasonic & touch sensors effectively to navigate across the game mat. Student also design their own functions using MyBlocks, and develop programming techniques to save time in competitions. Engineering activities include designing active and passive attachments, and obtain knowledge in gears including, gearing up and down, bevel and spur gears, and gear ratios.
The Competitive Robotics session culminates in a Robotics Hackathon during the last class.
