Summer Vacation Camp
Empow Camp returns to Lexington, Newton, Needham and Belmont in 2015, plus Brookline, Easton (Stonehill College), and Cape Cod.
Also New for 2015!
Empow Studios Camp – Minecraft Edition comes to Lexington, Needham, Easton and Cape Cod during select weeks.
Grab your pick axe and join your fellow Minecraftians for a week of game design, world creation, exploration, and modding madness. Campers will contribute to and create unique and amazing worlds that can be taken home and played on a personal Minecraft account. The virtual world combines with the physical when participants test game mechanics in the real world (an outdoor game of capture the flag or a scavenger hunt anyone?) and craft their own Minecraft gear using customized paper craft, perler beads, and other supplies. Campers can use their own Minecraft account or a temporary account from Empow Studios (no additional charge). All levels are welcome.

Empow Camps are Loved by Parents…
We loved the Empow experience. My kids could not get enough of it – they nagged us every morning to leave earlier (which has never happened before). I am really pleased that both boys, who have very different interests, were so engaged.

“It’s a unique camp… where you can learn new technologies, which is something you can’t really do at home.”
“I keep coming back here because it’s a place where I can be myself.”
“If I could come here all the time, I definitely would want to.”

Why Empow Camp?
Empow Camp is built on the idea that technology is the new creative medium, and kids need opportunities to understand how technology can fit into their lives — not just as entertainment, but as an essential tool for being successful. We made Empow Camp to be a unique combination of imaginative play and sophisticated technology made accessible to kids. We incorporate storytelling, design, planning, and collaboration into all projects. Storytelling is a big part of the camp. Each session builds toward a final project that will be showcased on the last day. We have story starters, ideas, and themes to help campers develop their characters and story lines, whether they’re working on an animation, multi-level video game, architecture project, or any other project type.
A Week at Camp
Monday AM: Introductions, games, teambuilding, preview of the week schedule, tour of the space and equipment, and ground rules. Monday PM: Plan and complete the first introductory projects. Tuesday – Wednesday: Individual and small-group work on the projects. Mini-lessons and group tutorials & demos. Instructors guide campers toward successful project completion. Thursday: Wrap up the projects, do any post-production, packaging, or final design work. Friday: Fun whole-group project, relax, play games, do mini-projects. Parents come in one hour before dismissal time for a full-group showcase of projects.
Well-balanced
Every 2 hours we take a break from projects to do group activities, games, and snacks. Lunch includes an hour-long recess outside (weather permitting), and each day ends with a group meeting and a game. All attendees make a movie of their project and take the movie home on a new flash drive. The week ends with the Friday Showcase of final movies played for parents and a celebration of everyone’s creative ideas.
