Our Teaching Approach

Teaching STEM to a student sounds great, but it’s most effective if kids channel their inner curiosity and creativity, so they can feel empowered and confident to create anything that their heart & mind desires. Our approach is through playful learning. We strive to make subjects like computer science, mechanical engineering, and digital art tailored to what they know and love – video games, robots, animations, custom-designed 3D models, cool apps, and more. Curriculum & Planning

We have lots of options to choose from as you plan what STEM topic(s) you’d like the field trip to focus on. Depending on the workshop option you choose, students will be working individually or in small groups as they design, build, code, and tinker their way to a super cool project. All we need beforehand is a student roster, that way we can prep for the class trip beforehand.

Optionally, we also give you resources and/or activities for you and the kids to do before the field trip, whether it’s during your class or the coolest homework they’ve ever been assigned. “Wait… my homework is to play a video game a student my age created? Wooohoo!!”

As you start getting the kids excited for the trip, we’re happy to see if we can adapt our curriculum to fit what you’re currently teaching in the class. Please let us know beforehand so we can prepare accordingly.

Lexington Historical Society

Looking for a bit more than just STEM? Empow Studios partners with Lexington Historical Society in running fields trips that blend STEM with historical Lexington. After touring Lexington Historical Society, students apply their new discoveries in a STEM workshop, filming animations, creating 3D architecture, and more.
