Engage with technology, get homework done, make new friends!
Kids will ask, “Why can’t SCHOOL be like this?”
Empow Studios STEM After School Club (ASC) is a unique care and enrichment program that brings together technology, arts, and play. Whether your child is programming their first robot or creating a self-watering garden in Minecraft, we nurture their creative talent, build up their imagination, and spark interests that can open up new possibilities, while accommodating individual differences. ASC is open on early release days for Lexington. Our After School Program is perfect for kids in grades 2 through 8 in Lexington, MA and nearby communities.
What’s new for 2017-2018?
- Challenge-based curriculum makes it easy for kids to ‘level-up’ with their Designing, Building, and Coding skills;
- Enhanced coding curriculum to bridge the gap from Scratch to Java;
- Updated digital animation tools for kids who want to tell their stories through digital art and cartoons;
- Major improvements to the learning system, including new digital portfolios and achievement badges.

Important Transportation Notice
Please Note: The Lexington School Committee has voted to continue the “Ride-After” program for parents, but the price of a seat has increased from $60 to $500 (in addition to the +$300 base fee to ride the bus to/from school). To learn more about this notice, please visit the LPS Transportation Department page and read the official notice.
Although we are happy to hear the program will be continuing this year, the $500 cost is not easy to swallow, and we’d like to help.
The $500 fee over the course of the school year breaks down to $50/mo. If your child is riding the bus to Empow, we’ll pay $10/mo (20%) towards the cost of the Ride-After program for every month your child is in our STEM After School Club program (up to $100 total).
Empow will continue to be a designated drop-off location for all 6 elementary schools, at the corner of Waltham St. & Vinebrook Rd, which is a short 3-5 minute walk to Empow.
We are an official designated drop-off location for all Lexington Elementary Schools through the Lexington Bus Department’s Ride-After Program. We have members from Empow staff at the drop-off location to make sure your child gets off the bus and arrives to Empow safely. Please contact us for more details at firstname.lastname@example.org or 617-395-7527.

What Happens During STEM After School Club?
3:00 – 4:00 Arrival / Choice Time – Students work on individual or group projects in a free-play format using their imaginations and creativity. Sample activities include: free-building with LEGO, group games, playing a board game, testing games their fellow students have made, etc.
4:00 – 4:15 Snack Time – Brain food! Kids need their snack, and we provide many choices (sometimes too many!) to keep them happy and refueled. Please see our food policy.
4:15 – 5:00 Homework / Project Time – Homework is corrected daily. Our educated, helpful staff work with students to complete their assignments and are open to working with parents on academic issues. Once kids complete their homework, they can choose from all types of projects including Video Game Design, Animation, Minecraft, Robotics, and more!
5:00 – 5:30 Physical Activities – Sometimes there is no better way to release energy then a good ol’ game of capture the flag, kickball, or Empow exclusive games like ‘Ollie Tag.’ When the weather is not nice, we stay inside for indoor activities in our open space, including our very own four-square court.
5:30 – 6:00 Tech & Design Project Time – We understand that kids should have the opportunity to explore more than just one project type here in the studio. We use this time to exclude Minecraft and introduce Scratch, Video Game Design, Robotics, Animation, 3D Modeling & Printing, Music Production, DJing, and Video Production.
6:00 – 6:30 Choice Time – What better way to end the day with some games with staff members and friends in the program. Who’s down for a game of Wii, or better yet, who can drive the Sphero robot on the grinding rails first?
Classes: Club members at any level can take any Empow Weekend Club held at the Lexington Studio for FREE! (normally $80/mo). All they need to do is register, and consistently attend. ASC kids who are holding seats in a weekend club and are not consistently attending may be unregistered from the weekend club.
NanoCamps: You know those days where you have to work but kids have the day off? Well, you save on that too! All ASC kids can sign up for NanoCamps for only $50 (normally $95).
Vacation Camps: February and April Vacations often sneak up on us. ASC members who register for a vacation camp before December 31 can get 15% off!

On Thursdays and other early-release days, kids need to bring a lunch to Empow, unless they have purchased from Red Apple Lunch. To sign up for Red Apple Lunch, please visit RedAppleLunch.com.
