Winter 2021 STEM Classes at Empow Studios

A new season, a new year, and new STEM classes to support learning beyond the classroom.

While our after school program, BUILD, has been running since early September, the New Year might be the perfect time for students to level up their STEM learning.

What’s new this year? In addition to our most popular classes like 2D Video Game Design, Coding with Scratch, and Minecraft Exploration, we have added several new classes, including Programmable Gadgets, 3D: Model, Sculpt, and Architect, and a new Python Advanced Team.

Students are enjoying our new Programmable Gadgets class, a great new option for anyone interested in both robotics and programming.

All classes at Empow are run with rolling admission and are designed to accommodate all skills levels and a wide range of ages. Students can enroll anytime and explore STEM curriculum and projects at their own pace. Students are grouped in classes by skill level and move through curriculum and projects at an equitable pace for everyone. Our STEM classes are available LIVE Virtual and at our equipment-stocked, state-of-the-art Lexington and Newton studios. Convenient schedules include after school and weekend options.

BUILD, is a monthly membership program that includes weekly classes across five STEM domains: Digital Arts & Design, Coding, Minecraft, Robotics, and Video Game Design. One easy monthly membership fee includes two 1-hour classes each week and discounts for additional STEM programs, including Holiday Camps, birthday parties, and more.

To select the best classes for your student, we recommend signing up for a free STEM lesson and consultation. We work with each family and student to develop a customized STEM learning path.

Minecraft: Redstone and Commands

Minecraft Path

For kids entering grades 2-4

Looking for the next level of Minecraft challenge? Come create amazing builds to share with your friends. Using Redstone circuitry and commands, campers will create complicated mechanisms like a mini-game, roller coaster or Rube Goldberg-like machine. This is a fun way for campers to learn the fundamental electrical engineering concepts that are used to build the circuits powering all of your digital devices.

Prerequisites: Prior Minecraft experience required.

Virtual Camp Technology Requirements: This program requires a Windows or Mac computer with a microphone and webcam. Note: Mac OS Catalina, Linux, iPad, or Chromebook will NOT work for this program.

Price: $459

Available: LIVE Virtual Half-Day 9am-12pm or 1-4pm

Calling all budding engineers! Design and build elaborate cardboard structures in this new outdoor STEM camp. Let’s see who can build the tallest tower, construct the latest fashion trend, or even construct mini-cities. Campers will explore the engineering design process by testing, evaluating, and redesigning their own cardboard structures, complete with movable parts. Campers who enjoy Minecraft can take a break from keyboards, blocks, and redstone and try crafting fantastic structures and exciting machines. Come find your passion for building!

Prerequisites: None.

Price: $829
