Empow Summer Camps in Massachusetts

At a Glance: Tech & Design and Minecraft Summer Camps

Tech & Design Camp

It’s the one camp to rule them all: Video Game Design, Robotics, Animation, 3D Modeling & Printing, Music Production, and other exciting projects are all fair game. Whether it’s building a working guitar made of LEGO MINDSTORMS, designing an action-packed video game to challenge friends with, or creating an animated mini-movie, the options are limitless, and the learning doesn’t stop! We teach the nuts & bolts behind these subjects, and campers use their imagination to make their project come alive.

Minecraft Camp

Are you ready for the ultimate week-long learning adventure? Our camps are tailored to all skill levels, whether you’re just starting out your explorations or you already know you’re way around creepers. We start by introducing campers to Redstone, a special kind of element that mimics electricity almost perfectly. Campers of nearly any skill level can have fun building circuit boards, and even making a very simple computer inside Minecraft. As they master Redstone skills, we offer challenges that teach key concepts in programming, design, electrical engineering, and architecture, all while using teamwork and social skills. It’s the perfect blend of fun, learning, and creativity.

If the week you’re looking for is filled, please join our waiting list.

Some of our Student’s Work

Video Game Design

Eli designed this multi-level video game which uses a number of sprites he designed himself. Eli also programmed the character control to move fluidly through the game.

3D Design

Kian designed this Pokemon, Onyx, using our new and easy to learn 3D Design software. Campers can design, build, and print 3D models to take home and share with family & friends.

Robotics

Hear it from the student himself! Nick shows us his inspiration for this custom robot design he developed, inspired from a Paper Strandbeest model. Very impressive!

Minecraft

Empow campers from our Lexington Studios built this Rube Goldberg machine during Minecraft Camp, which uses a number of electrical, architectural, and Redstone designs to turn on a light.

Animation

Andrew & Robert worked on this claymation, which uses stop-motion to depict a story of two brothers traveling through portals to save their friend from intergalactic aliens.

Music Production

Aaron created this groove through the use of drag & drop samples & loops. His rock song displays an understanding of a wide range of tonal properties in this impressive composition.

Empow Camps are Loved by Parents…

We loved the Empow experience. My kids could not get enough of it – they nagged us every morning to leave earlier (which has never happened before). I am really pleased that both boys, who have very different interests, were so engaged.

Melissa, a Lexington Empow Camp mother

… and by Kids

“It’s a unique camp… where you can learn new technologies, which is something you can’t really do at home.”

“I keep coming back here because it’s a place where I can be myself.”

“If I could come here all the time, I definitely would want to.”

Why Empow Camp?

Empow Camp is built on the idea that technology is the new creative medium, and kids need opportunities to understand how technology can fit into their lives — not just as entertainment, but as an essential tool for being successful. We made Empow Camp to be a unique combination of imaginative play and sophisticated technology made accessible to kids. We incorporate storytelling, design, planning, and collaboration into all projects. Storytelling is a big part of the camp. Each session builds toward a final project that will be showcased on the last day. We have story starters, ideas, and themes to help campers develop their characters and story lines, whether they’re working on an animation, multi-level video game, architecture project, or any other project type.

A Week at Camp

  • Mon: Team-building games and welcome activities to make new campers comfortable. Then, teacher demos & brainstorming to inspire project ideas.
  • Tue: Camper start working on individual and small-group projects. Mini-lesson, tutorials, and demos are held throughout the day.
  • Wed: Projects start coming to life! Kids learn to blend technologies by composing music and filming/editing video for existing projects.
  • Thu: Wrap up projects by adding any post-production, packaging, or final design work. Kids start preparing their booth for a big event on Friday!
  • Fri: Fun whole-group activities and instructor-led games make a great end to the week. Parents are invited to attend a student project showcase!
